In an interview with Infobae, the singer talks about Ya tú me conoces, a song she performed with Mau y Ricky, and already exceeded one million views on YouTube

Thalía started 2020 by releasing a new song, Ya tú me conoces, which in just a few days exceeded one million views on YouTube.

For the Mexican singer there is no secret behind the choice of themes with which one success after another is usually noted, it is only about trusting her heart.

And now, with Ya tú me conoces - which she performed with Mau y Ricky - she just wants to continue offering her audience something fresh and fun.

In an interview with Infobae, Thalia talked about the story of how the song came to her and how she has remained in force in the music scene for more than three decades. She also explained that now success is not only measured through millions of records sold and what she hopes to convey with her music.

How do you start 2020? What can you tell us about this song, Ya tú me conoces?
Precisely excited to present a new song, fresh, fun, mischievous to my people, to my audience. I've been in composition camps, producing, in studio, more than a year, creating songs, looking for new sounds for my people and when I got this song from Mau y Ricky - in a demo they sent me sung by them - when I heard it I said 'yes, I definitely love it, I keep the song, but I also want them to stay', because the way they performed it is the coolest, funniest and I love it. They got on the project, they were fascinated by the idea and here we are presenting Ya tú me conoces, which is a cool sound, within the urban and pop and the video also has its style as I always wanted it a little more eighties in terms of colors, formats, shots and I think the combination has been very positive.

You have more than 30 years of career and you usually score one success after another, how do you know that a song will work or not? What is your filter to choose what you are going to sing?
Definitely it is something that you feel, it is something that vibrates you, it really has no secret. It's like when you're with a person who makes your energy feel bad, that you definitely feel that you have a vibration, a heavy aura, or that you are a person with whom you flow, that you feel comfortable with, is the same with the music. When you listen to a song and it resonates in your soul and you feel that your skin is bristling, or that you immediately sit and want to hear it, at that moment is when my antennae say 'this is it'. Thank God I have that intuition and that hunch heard it. I have trained for years to listen to that hunch despite the fact that there are times when my mind says "no, don't do that". Although my mind does tricks, I have already trained my heart as soon as it feels that emotion it is always right.

In the end, are you the one who makes the decision of what to sing or do you consider the opinion of your team?
It is about 70-80% my hunch, but I also like to listen to my team. When an artist, when a person felt that themselves are the best, and what they says is what it is, then, I think there is the beginning of the end. I believe that while you surround yourself with a team that is creative, that is in force and that they listen to you, but also contribute, that is something that adds to your career, that helps you to be much more focused and give the best quality of what you want to share with people.

What do you think is what has allowed you to remain in force?
I think it has been not to be rigid but to be moldable to change, to adapt to change, I think it is the secret of life in general, not only as a singer or in your profession, but in general the secret of life is to adapt to change because life keeps changing and will change every minute, every second, so you have to be very alert and very prone that the change is good, hug it and throw yourself and that is what I have done throughout so many years of career, see the change, understand it, fit and follow.

Within those changes there has not been any that cost you more work, for example moving from one musical genre to another?
Yes and no, I have always had the same spine that I want to share in each song, the melodic structure that I have always handled, that fidelity to my sound, my interpretation, my way of being as a singer, but I've always moved to different musical guilds, all my discography, my spine is something more pop but I've moved everyone inside my pop, I've suddenly done bachata, I've done salsa, hip hop, suddenly I sang with Tonny Benett. It is a bit of evolution but respecting.

In an era like the current one, with streaming platforms, social networks, how do you measure your success now, through the millions of views or the millions of records sold?
Each market has its measurement, what are the physical sales, although they are not as many as before in volume, however, what you sell there you see success. As for the shares, in the streams, the video how many views it has, shared, comments, there is the appreciation of your contribution to music in this new world. The change must be embraced and I love it, I adore everything that is social networks, share my music through different playlists, it is something that is wonderful, magical, to be present in the moment and see everything that is happening and comment with the people.

How do you see the world and your career in 2020?
The world is in a moment of much chaos, a lot of change, a lot of uncertainty and that obviously generates depression or negativity in people and I believe that one has that responsibility to be that positive person in the world, that positivity, that smile, that joy, that way of sowing hope in people, of sowing light. That is what I tried to do through my work, my companies, try to make everything that I contribute and that carries my face, my image, my voice, have that light, that joy and that it is not something that I do feeling bad people, but on the contrary, that makes people feel hopeful, with the strength that I can also achieve it and I can also realize it.
